100 YEARS
F.C. GUNDLACH
Iconic Works
19 June - 29 August 2026
To mark the 100th anniversary of F.C. Gundlach’s birth, Galerie noir blanche is dedicating a special exhibition to one of the most significant photographers of the 20th century. On display are iconic works from several creative phases of this internationally renowned photographer, whose visual language has had a lasting impact on the history of fashion and photography.
F.C. Gundlach was regarded as a visionary of postwar photography. His photographs combined elegance, graphic clarity, and the spirit of modernism into an unmistakable aesthetic. His fashion photographs from the 1950s through the 1970s, in particular, became icons of a new visual culture.
The exhibition at Galerie noir blanche focuses on Gundlach’s extraordinary sense of staging, form, and movement. His photographs not only depict fashion but also reflect social changes, a spirit of optimism, and the aesthetics of an entire era. In particular, his Parisian works from the 1960s—influenced by Op Art, the avant-garde, and the dawn of prêt-à-porter—are now considered among the most significant pieces in his body of work.
With this exhibition, the gallery honors an artist who was simultaneously a photographer, collector, gallery owner, curator, and founding director of the Haus der Photographie at the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg. Gundlach’s work continues to influence generations of photographers and designers worldwide to this day.
The exhibition brings together timeless classics, rarely seen vintage prints, and selected works from the archives of the F.C. Gundlach Foundation, inviting visitors to rediscover the work of this great visual artist.
